Respite & In-Home Supportive Services
Respite Care is a term describing "rest or relief" from caregiving duties. The Senior Hub offers volunteer respite care to family members and other caregivers who need relief from their caregiving duties. Respite Care and In-Home Supportive Services uses community linkages and grass-roots volunteerism to provide short-term in-home respite care and supportive services for frail older adults who live alone. The program forms partnerships with community groups to recruit, train, and place volunteers. In addition to respite, our volunteers can provide grocery shopping, run errands, do light housekeeping, business help, or simply offer friendly visits and telephone reassurance. All of our volunteers are carefully screened, bonded, and insured, and all have passed CBI background checks.
For clients able to afford a modest fee (starting at $16 per hour), the Respite Program also offers a somewhat more intensive caregiving and housecleaning service. A paid caregiver is able to remain in the client's household for a longer period of time than a volunteer.
In
addition, through the help of a DRCOG (Denver Regional Council of Governments)
grant, the Respite Program is able to subsidize a paid family caregiver up to
a maximum of $750. Restrictions apply and clients (care-receivers) must
meet certain qualifications.
Volunteer assistance is free - there are no income qualifications to meet. Of course, we would appreciate donations from those who are able to give to help with the continuation of the program.
The Senior Hub operates a satellite office for its Respite and In-Home Supportive Services Program in Aurora, the Aurora and Tri-Valley areas of Arapahoe Counties, and along the East I-70 Corridor through Deer Trail.
A new Respite Care
service for Adams County residents (age 55+) as of June 2007 is the Companion
Care Program, which provides volunteer assistance with caring for pets.
A volunteer will come to your home to help with your non-medical pet care
needs, including bathing, brushing, exercise, and litter box cleaning.
